Symptoms of Anxiety Panic Attacks

Nobody wants to have a stressful life or experience anxiety, but we all do to some degree now and again in life. However, about 1.7 percent of the population or 3 million people deal with these things on a more regular basis and on a much greater scale. They are those who suffer from anxiety panic attacks.

The difference between just being stressed out, anxious or nervous and having a panic anxiety attack are pretty easy to spot. While stress and anxiety of the normal variety can cause headaches, stomach upset and other physical symptoms, an anxiety disorder panic attack can actually mimic a heart attack in many ways. The sufferer often feels that they are going to go crazy or even die.

Although panic anxiety attacks come on suddenly and are often seem to have no known cause, the symptoms are serious enough that it is not unusual for a person experiencing a panic attack to end up in the emergency room believing they are having a heart attack. Only a doctor can say for sure if it's anxiety or cardiac arrest causing the symptoms!

Anxiety Panic Attacks

Some of the symptoms that are commonly experienced during a panic attack are heart palpitations or a pounding heartbeat or tightness in the chest. Shortness of breath or other difficulty breathing can feel like you are being choked. Lightheadedness and dizziness as well as upset stomach or nausea hot flashes or chills, shaking and sweating are other physical symptoms. The person usually feels a sense of terror, often of nothing in specific, but just that something horrible is about to happen. They may feel that they need to escape somehow, feel out of control or, as mentioned, think that they are dying.

When a few, or even most of those symptoms come on suddenly as you go about your daily business, you are experiencing a panic attack. Because anxiety panic attacks are recurring, once one has occurred in a certain place or situation, even if there was no fear at all before, the person may become afraid of being in that situation. If someone has a panic attack while in a stairwell, they may fear they will have another if they enter a stairwell again, and therefore avoid them altogether, possibly even developing a phobia of them.

This type of anxiety disorder panic attack can be debilitating and make leading a normal life difficult. Getting help can make coping with panic anxiety attack much easier. As a matter of fact, just being informed about what happens during an attack and how many people experience them can make people cope with symptoms in a better way, making the attacks much less devastating. Seeking help from a professional for this type of therapy (cognitive behavioral therapy) or medication can diminish or even stop panic attacks from occurring altogether.
